Admissions

All patients need to show that they have medical cover, either:

  1. Through the French sécurité sociale with a Carte Vitale and its attestation
  2. or justify medical assistance or AME
  3. or furnish proof of cover (prise en charge) from another organization (e.g. private health insurance from country of origin, Embassy, etc.)
  4. or for a citizen of the European Economic area (25 member states of the European Union + Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and + Switzerland), one of the following forms:
    • E111 and E111B used by tourists,
    • E110 used by international road transporters,
    • E128 used by students and people working in a Member State other than their own,
    • E119 used by people registered as unemployed and seeking work in another Member State

    European Union Health Insurance CardEuropean Union Health Insurance CardNote that from June 1, 2004, a European Health Insurance card (issued by the national health organisation in the patient's country of residence) is  available in many states that will replace the above forms by the end of 2005. This card is already available in, for example, France and Ireland, while in UK and 15 other will be not introduce the cards until the end of the transition period in 2005. Meanwhile the existing forms continue to be available and honoured.

If none of these above conditions is met, the costs of hospitalization must be settled in full by patients before their discharge.

Patients with a prise en charge issued by a Mutuelle (or other recognised insurance company) can avoid paying the Ticket Modérateur (the cost of care not covered by the basic social security) and the standard daily charges, as the Hospital will deal with the insurance company directly.
