Anaesthetic consultations

A consultation with an Anaesthetist is required:

• within the month preceding any surgical procedure requiring anaesthesia
• in the three weeks before the expected delivery date, even if the future mother does not want an epidural

During this consultation:

• The patient's medical history will be  reviewed and there will be a clinical examination. Steps will be taken if any medical problems are identified.
• The results of any medical analyses will be checked for any abnormalities
• The future mother can ask any questions she likes, most notably about the epidural procudure.

Note that on the last Friday of every month there is an information session about epidural anaesthesia.
